MY STORY

Sixteen years ago I was invited to participate, along with several other artists, in a reception and fundraiser for the opening of “Bob Dylan’s American Journey, 1955 -1966” at the Fairfield Museum of Art in Door County, Wisconsin, where my husband Tim and I were living at the time. We were challenged to create T-shirts reflecting life during that time period to be auctioned off at the event. In doing my research I came across a quote by Howard Thurman, a theologian and civil rights activist that stopped me in my tracks! The quote is “Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive”.  I placed that saying on my T-shirt, along with hand painted psychedelic flowers and a handmade lampwork glass bracelet that matched. My art sold for $480 and I was invited to participate in a juried outdoor art festival the following month.

At that time I was working as an executive in the hospitality industry - working crazy hours - without much of a life except a paycheck. Howard Thurman’s words pounded in my head for a couple of weeks, gnawing at my gut to let go and let the inner artist out to play…

Two weeks after the opening reception, I chose to walk away from a twenty year career and come alive.

My designs have changed and evolved a lot over the years, but never as much as when Tim and I followed our dream and moved to the Caribbean in 2006. We live between the beach and the rain forest on the northeastern coast of Puerto Rico, a bright and colorful island teeming with natural beauty and vibrant, warm people. I felt right at home and easily fell into island life. The change in my work was dramatic! Bold colors, strong lines, and a certain sense of playfulness and whimsy; happy designs for happy people! I realized my dream of opening a studio in 2013, and I welcome you to stop by and say hi when you're in the area! I hope that through my work I can make you smile and inspire you to come alive and follow YOUR dreams!
